Canvas

Documentation made simple, accurate, and fast.

Canvas.io is great to incorporate in your workflow, especially for site visits and early design phases. It allows for easy 3D scanning that documents floor plans with precision and CAD conversion. This allows for generating digital models quickly and accurately. Slight criticism of Canvas would be that it is expensive. It for sure is great as a starting point for design workflows rather than relying on images and estimating dimensions.

Ethical/Copyright Concerns

Ethical and copyright concerns with Canvas.io primarily involve data privacy, ownership, and accuracy. Architects must secure client consent for 3D scans, protect sensitive spatial data, and verify automated measurements before use. While users retain ownership of their scans, Canvas.io holds a license to process them, raising questions about data control. Additionally, derivative CAD or BIM models and captured third-party designs may introduce copyright risks if reused without permission, emphasizing the need for clear agreements and responsible data handling.
