- Fast 2D, in a browser. Real-time “multiplayer” drafting and redlining, no installs, no file chaos. Share a link and everyone’s in the same model.
Rayon - Set-up for drawing sets: Pages/layouts for sheets, style + block libraries (4,000+ items) to keep graphics consistent across a package.
- Interoperable: Import PDFs/DWG/DXF; export DWG/DXF/PDF/PNG to hand off to AutoCAD or consultants. Printing to scale is built in
- Coordination & schedules: Comments/annotations, shared libraries, and metadata-linked tables (doors, windows, quantities) for quick schedules.
- Team Friendly
What it lacks (or isn’t meant for)
- Not full BIM / no native 3D modeling: Rayon positions itself as “faster than CAD, lighter than BIM.” Use Revit/ArchiCAD for parametric 3D, families, and deep model-based documentation.
Rayon - Fewer advanced CAD niche tools: Compared to AutoCAD’s decades of commands, plugins, and plot control, Rayon focuses on streamlined 2D; ultra granular plotting workflows may still be easier in AutoCAD. (Rayon relies on browser printing/exports.)
- Connectivity dependence: It’s web based; offline work isn’t the point, so teams needing guaranteed offline drafting may prefer desktop CAD for that phase.
