TestFit
Rapid Optimisation, Site Planning, Analysis, Project Feasibility, Generative Design, and Real Estate
TestFit is an AI-assisted site planner that targets those in the building industry. Its main goal is to assist the user in efficiently bypassing the early stages of a project development through analysis and generative design. This is done through AI assistant in rapidly analysing site conditions, building cost, and generative solutions.
However, the drawback of this application is that TestFit is meant primarily for the building industry, especially those in real estate. As a result, students do no benefit much from this tool for their projects, as much of the features that the application offers are locked behind expensive monthly payments.
Despite the cost, the program is free through your college professor.

Ethical and Copyright Concerns
- When using AI-powered generative design software like TestFit, the ethical and copyright concerns generally stem from the nature of AI, rather than specific, known issues with the TestFit platform itself.
Generative design tools optimize for specified metrics (e.g., efficiency, unit count). If social sustainability, equity, or community values are not explicitly programmed into the metrics, they may be overlooked in the generated designs.- A human architect needs to remain “in the loop” to make ethical and socio-sustainable design decisions. Over-reliance on AI could lead to a homogenization of design that ignores unique local, social, and cultural contexts.
- Many AI models are trained on vast amounts of data from the internet, which may include copyrighted material used without permission or compensation. Lawsuits are ongoing against major AI companies regarding this practice. While the user doesn’t train the model, they should be aware of potential legal challenges in the industry that could impact the software they use.
